Pisecko is the region of deep forests full of animals and birds with preserved nature, South bohemian meadows and ponds - a perfect place for recreation. It is one of the most charming place in the Czech Republic. South Bohemia was never a God forsaken land. In the past, it was one of the rich regions which was also the region of rebels. Its history is full of wars and revolts but the past left behind also the large collection of treasures in architecture, music and literature.

The South bohemian landscape is known for its peace and harmony, perfect for relaxation and sport. The region of Pisek is one part of the peaceful South Bohemia which offers its visitors many unforgettable experiences - nobody will be disappointed, as the region offers everything that the visitors need.

The region is situated on an area of 1138 square meters and the forest covers one third of this area. The number of inhabitants is around 71 thousand, of which two thirds live in the towns of Pisek, Milevsko, Protivin and Mirovice. Orlik Dam and the other beauties of South bohemian nature attract the tourists to relax there.
The Orlik reservoir of an area 2 640 hectares fills the valley of the river Vltava (60 kilometers), Otava (23 kilometers) and Luznice (7 kilometers). The height of the Orlik reservoir dam is 91 meters. The reservoir's banks are an ideal place for swimming, water sports, fishing and recreation. The forests around the reservoir offer an opportunity for hunting. The most well-known camp sites are Velky Vir, Radava and Podolsko. The most visited places are the town of Pisek, the Zvikov castle and the Orlik chateau.

The region is not only rich in natural beauties and architectural monuments. It has also been a place which attracted several generations of writers (J. Carek, A. Heyduk, A. Sova, L. Stroupeznicky, F. Sramek, R. Weiner, M. Zahradka), painters (M. Ales, J. Rericha, T. Stetka, R. Pilar, J. Vachal), musicians and composers (J. Pilka, J. Srnka, A. Dvorak, O. Sevcik, O. Jeremias) as well as the dramatist Alfred Radok and film maker Vaclav Krska.

Nowadays', the culture life of the region can be seen by the visitors in the exhibition halls, galleries, concert's halls and theaters because contemporary artists also try to enrich their region with something ungorgettable. Pisek region was inhabited from time immemorial. Archeologists have found places which establish the residence of Mesolithic and Neolithic, Celtics and then Slavic inhabitants, each of which cultivated the landscape. The Przemyslid dynasty, when they ruled in Bohemia in the Middle Ages, founded many castles, towns and villages in South Bohemia.

The center of the region is the town of Pisek, which is one of the most beautiful towns in South Bohemia. Pisek is known mostly for the earliest stone bridge in Bohemia, built in 13th century and decorated later with Baroque statues. Pisek was the center of the region of Prachen, until the middle of 19th century, and then of the region of Pisek. Pisek was the seat of the administration and court autorities.
